Smuggling is not tolerated at customs

Last year, the Ministry of Trade seized goods worth 75.5 million lira at customs thanks to reports from citizens.

No tolerance is shown for smuggled goods with reports from citizens.

According to the compilation made by the Ministry of Trade, the reported hotline operates to also secure the support of citizens in combating smuggling. The hotline operates 24/7, with personnel promptly relaying any information deemed as a report to relevant regional or central units.

In this scope, reports regarding all kinds of smuggling activities by air, land, and sea are received.

With the reports conveyed to the Ministry last year, 197 apprehensions were made, with seized goods amounting to 75.5 million lira, and an administrative fine of 1.6 million lira imposed. In addition to the ALO 136 Customs Surveillance Report Line, 4,261 applications were received from email, the Presidential Communication Center (CİMER), the Ministry’s website, and other sources. The total value of seized goods as a result of these applications amounted to 1,566,235,557 lira. Through intelligence operations conducted nationally and internationally, a 470% increase was achieved in 2024 compared to the previous year, with goods worth 1.8 billion lira seized, and an administrative fine of 84,143,456 lira imposed.
