American singer Katy Perry and other famous personalities soared into space with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ rocket company. The journey from Texas on the New Shepard rocket lasted 10 minutes. Known for hits like “California Gurls,” “Dark Horse,” and “Roar,” the renowned singer Katy Perry ventured into space.
Among the names on the trip planned by Blue Origin, Jeff Bezos’ aviation and space company, were Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyễn, Gayle King, Kerianne Flynn, and Lauren Sánchez. The journey, part of the NS-31 mission, took place on the “New Shepard” rocket and lasted 10 minutes. Two minutes and 40 seconds after Blue Origin’s New Shepard spacecraft was launched, the capsule carrying the 6 female crew members detached from the spacecraft. Approximately 1 minute later, the capsule crossed the Karman Line into space.
During this time, the 6-person crew that earned the title of astronaut experienced microgravity for around 4 minutes or, in other words, weightlessness. The spacecraft floated in space for about 4 minutes before returning to Earth. It is known that the crew briefly detached from their seats to move freely in the zero-gravity environment.
The Karman Line, which is situated 100 kilometers above sea level, is considered the boundary between the Earth’s atmosphere and space. Individuals crossing this boundary are recognized as astronauts. Traveling towards the sky for about 100 kilometers and beyond the internationally accepted boundary for space, the New Shepard rocket reached speeds over 3 times the speed of sound.
Since 2021, Blue Origin has been conducting paid flights lasting 10 minutes under space tourism. For the first time in over 60 years, an all-female crew participated in a space mission.
Lastly, in 1963, Russian astronaut Valentina Tereshkova was the first woman in space. The 6-member, all-female crew extensively prepared for this historic flight. Blue Origin shared that the famous figures took astronaut training lessons.
In remarks made to AP, American singer Katy Perry stated, “Every day I say to myself, ‘You are brave, you are courageous, you are doing this to inspire a very different person for the next generation, especially young girls.'” The singer, on her social media account, did not forget to share about her training.
“I am in space training, and there is so much to absorb. We’ve almost finished the day and they showed us the capsule and we’re doing simulations in another capsule. The capsule’s name is Tortoise,” Perry said in previous statements, expressing, “If you told me I would be part of the first all-female crew going to space, I would believe you… There was nothing my childhood imagination couldn’t reach.”
