Well-known figures, including Katy Perry, will have the opportunity to travel to the edge of space thanks to a journey conducted by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ rocket company. A crew of 6 will embark on a 10-minute flight onboard the rocket named “New Shepard.” Renowned singer Katy Perry, known for songs like “California Gurls,” “Dark Horse,” and “Roar,” is going to space.

Among individuals scheduled for the trip planned by Blue Origin, an aerospace and space company owned by Amazon’s founder Jeff Bezos, are Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyễn, Gayle King, Kerianne Flynn, and Lauren Sánchez. The space journey, as part of the NS-31 mission, is set to take place today and will last around 10 minutes. The space flight will be carried out by the rocket named “New Shepard.”

The spacecraft will float in space for about 4 minutes before returning to the Earth, making the entire journey slightly over 10 minutes. The New Shepard rocket, set to travel approximately 100 kilometers towards the sky and surpass the Karman Line, will exceed speeds three times the speed of sound.

Blue Origin has been conducting paid 10-minute flights for space tourism since 2021. For the first time in over 60 years, a crew consisting entirely of women is participating in a space mission. The last instance was in 1963 when Russian-born astronaut Valentina Tereshkova went to space. The 6-person, all-female crew has completed their final preparations. A release from Blue Origin revealed that the famous personalities took astronaut lessons.

In statements to AP, American singer Katy Perry expressed, “Every day I say to myself, ‘You are brave, you are brave, you are doing this to inspire a very different person for the next generation, especially young girls.’” Perry shared updates on her social media account about her space training.

“In space training and there is so much to digest. We almost finished our day and were shown the capsule, and we are carrying out simulations in another capsule. The capsule is called Tortoise,” Perry said in previous remarks, adding, “If you told me I would be part of the first female crew going to space, I would believe you… Nothing was beyond my childhood imagination.”
