Short Selling Prohibited on the Stock Exchange

The Capital Markets Board has decided to ban short selling transactions on the Borsa Istanbul AS stock markets and facilitate share buybacks of publicly traded companies. This decision will be valid until the end of the session on March 25.

In the statement made by the CMB, it was stated:

Due to recent developments in the Borsa Istanbul AS markets in recent days, some measures have been taken by our Board. In order to ensure the reliable, transparent, efficient, stable, fair, and competitive operation and development of the capital markets and to protect the rights and interests of investors, transactions carried out on the Borsa Istanbul AS are continuously monitored by our Board. Due to recent developments in the Borsa Istanbul AS markets in recent days, it has become necessary for our Board to take some measures. Therefore, from March 24, 2025, until the end of the session on April 25, 2025, short selling transactions on the Borsa Istanbul AS stock markets will be prohibited, share buybacks of publicly traded companies will be facilitated, and the flexibility of the equity ratio will be applied during the continuation of margin trades.
