The decline in Turkey’s industrial production accelerated in August. Industrial production decreased by 1.6 percent on a monthly basis. Production also fell by 5.4 percent compared to last year. The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) released the industrial production index data for August. According to the data, seasonally adjusted industrial production in August recorded a 5.3 percent decrease compared to the same month last year. When examining the sub-sectors of industry, in August, the mining and quarrying sector index decreased by 5.4 percent compared to the same month last year, the manufacturing sector index decreased by 5.4 percent, while the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning production and distribution sector index increased by 1.6 percent. On an annual basis, there was a 5.86 percent decrease in the unadjusted industrial production index. Production also decreased by 1.6 percent on a monthly basis when looking at seasonally and calendar adjusted industrial production in August compared to the previous month. In the same month, when examining the sub-sectors of industry, the mining and quarrying sector index decreased by 4.4 percent, the manufacturing sector index decreased by 1.3 percent, and the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning production and distribution sector index decreased by 3.2 percent.
