Second round of polio vaccination campaign in Gaza to start on October 14

1 Mins Read

The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced that the second round of the polio vaccination campaign will begin on October 14 in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), UNRWA, and UNICEF.

According to the statement from the Palestinian Ministry of Health, the second round of polio vaccination will start on October 14 and will last for three days.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health revealed that after the infrastructure was destroyed in Israeli attacks in August, the “poliovirus” causing polio was detected for the first time in 25 years in stagnant water and sewage pools in the tent camps where displaced people reside and in the areas with population.

An announcement from the UN and its partners stated that more than 640,000 children under the age of 10 will be vaccinated.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres emphasized the need for facilitating the transportation of vaccines and necessary equipment, as well as ensuring the entry of polio experts into Gaza in order for the vaccination process to be successful.
