Warning alerts have been issued by scientists regarding the rapid greening of Lake Victoria, the largest tropical lake in the world.

It has been reported that a ‘cyanobacteria’ outbreak is occurring in the lake, which spans three countries in Africa, due to the process of ‘eutrophication’.

The main causes of this situation are explained to be agricultural run-off, industrial waste, and atmospheric pollution entering the lake as a result of human activities, with climate change being emphasized to accelerate the process.

Experts have cautioned that this process could cause ‘serious harm’ to the lake ecosystem and the millions of people living in its vicinity.
