The death toll in the airstrikes carried out by Russian warplanes in Idlib, northwest Syria, has risen to 10, with 32 wounded. According to information from the opposition’s aircraft observation center, three Russian warplanes took off from the Hmeymim Air Base in Latakia yesterday around 17:00 local time and conducted 4 airstrikes in Idlib. Information from the Syria Civil Defence (White Helmets) indicated that the number of casualties in the airstrikes on a carpentry workshop in Ainshib village has reached 10, with 32 wounded. The wounded have been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Russia has conducted airstrikes at 27 points in Idlib over the past 4 days. Turkey, Russia, and Iran decided to create 4 “de-escalation zones” in areas not under Syrian regime control during the Astana talks in 2017. The Damascus regime, Iran-backed terrorists, and Russia have continued attacks, seizing 3 out of the 4 zones and heading towards Idlib. Despite reaching an additional agreement with Russia in September 2018 to strengthen the ceasefire, attacks escalated again in May 2019. Following a new agreement between Turkey and Russia on March 5, 2020, the ceasefire has largely been maintained. Approximately 2 million civilians forced to flee the attacks between 2017 and 2020 have had to migrate to areas near the Turkish border.
