Russian stance on nuclear power plant: Control of Zaporizhia cannot be given to another country

1 Mins Read

Moscow stated that it is not possible to transfer the control of the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant from Russia to another country.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant belongs to Russia and that transferring control of the plant to another country is not feasible. The Ministry emphasized that operating the plant in partnership with any foreign state is unacceptable.

Citing security concerns, the Ministry pointed out that there is no precedent for such an arrangement globally. It also dismissed the possibility of the plant being operated by international organizations lacking the necessary credentials. The statement underscored that joint operation of the plant with another country is out of the question, stating, “NATO countries’ intelligence services have the potential for sabotage, making it temporarily impossible for representatives of these states to visit the plant.”
