Russian Journalist Killed by Stepping on Landmine at Ukraine Border

In the Belgorod region of Russia, near the border with Ukraine, Russian war correspondent Anna Prokofieva stepped on a landmine. The young journalist lost her life, while her cameraman friend Dmitry Volkov was severely injured.

Anna Prokofieva, who worked as a war correspondent for Channel 1, lost her life by stepping on a landmine in the Belgorod region, near the Ukrainian border. Cameraman Dmitry Volkov was severely injured.

In a statement, the channel mentioned that the 35-year-old Prokofieva “lost her life while carrying out her duty.”

LAST POST MADE ON TUESDAY

It was reported that the young journalist had been covering the Ukraine crisis at the channel since 2023.

Her last post on social media was made on Tuesday, showing her sitting in a chair in the forest, dressed in military uniform and wearing a camera on her head.

BELGOROD REGION AND CONFLICTS

The Belgorod region on Russia’s western border continues to face drone and mortar attacks from Ukraine, while conflicts in the region persist during Ukraine’s withdrawal process from the Kursk region.

According to the Committee to Protect Journalists data, approximately 20 media workers have lost their lives in the region since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
