2 Mins Read

Following the meetings between the US, Russia, and Ukraine delegations in Saudi Arabia, the two countries agreed to end the conflicts in the Black Sea. Ukrainian President Zelensky announced that Turkey could be an observer in the ceasefire with Russia to ensure safe navigation in the Black Sea. President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, held a press conference after the separate meetings between the US delegation and Russia and Ukraine in Saudi Arabia. Zelensky stated that the agreement reached to ensure safe navigation in the Black Sea and halt attacks on the energy infrastructure came into effect immediately after the meetings, expressing that Russia had begun to manipulate and distort the agreements. Zelensky mentioned that in case Russia violates the agreements, he would demand weapon support from US President Donald Trump and sanctions against Russia, stating, “The US side believes that these agreements came into effect after their statements. However, I do not trust that Russia will comply with these regulations.” He also emphasized that Ukraine would do everything to implement the agreements but would give a strong response if Russia continues its attacks. Zelensky conveyed that during the talks with US officials, they provided a list of facilities that should not be targeted under the agreement regarding attacks on the energy infrastructure. Zelensky pointed out that the US did not include the provision regarding assisting Ukraine for regaining Russia’s global access to markets in agricultural and fertilizer exports in the written statement made by the US about Ukraine, adding, “We believe this implies weakening sanctions and our position.” TURKEY MAY BE AN OBSERVER IN THE CEASEFIRE IN THE BLACK SEA Zelensky stated, “The US side did not want to delve into many details to prevent the failure of this process. However, we must understand the answers to the details in any case.” Zelensky mentioned that Turkey could be involved in observing the ceasefire in the Black Sea and Middle Eastern countries could participate in the ceasefire regarding the energy infrastructure, stressing that these matters have not been discussed with these countries yet. Additionally, Zelensky disclosed that the US presented an expanded draft agreement on valuable minerals to Ukraine, mentioning that he has not had the opportunity to thoroughly review the new draft yet but highlighting that the proposal for Ukraine to have more involvement in the nuclear energy sector was not included in this draft.
