Russia Absent from Trump’s Tax List

2 Mins Read

US President Donald Trump released customs duties affecting 185 countries yesterday. The absence of Russia on Trump’s list caught attention. Under the decree signed by US President Donald Trump, tariffs are expected to be imposed on the country’s 185 trading partners. Trump announced that starting today, the US will reciprocate with tariffs on other countries, with a base tariff rate of 10 percent. While the new customs duties list includes 185 trading partners of the US, Russia is not included in this list. White House Spokesperson Karoline Leavitt mentioned in a statement to the US-based news site Axios that Russia was not included on the list because the US sanctions against Russia already significantly hindered trade.

TRADE DECREASED TO $3.5 BILLION-Early According to data from the US Department of Commerce, trade between Russia and the US has significantly decreased compared to pre-Ukraine-Russia War levels. The trade volume between the two countries, which was approximately $36 billion in 2021, dropped to around $3.5 billion in 2024. In addition to the existing sanctions against Russia, Trump had recently threatened to impose punitive customs duties on Russian oil buyers. The US imported more goods from Russia than from Ukraine last year. In 2024, goods worth around $3 billion were imported from Russia to the US, while imports from Ukraine totaled around $1.2 billion.
