Thirteen people who were trapped in the debris at the collapse site died, while four injured individuals were taken to the hospital. Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic visited the location of the train station to receive updates from officials.
During his remarks, Prime Minister Vucevic noted that the structure was built in 1964, the incident would be investigated, and those responsible for negligence would be held accountable. Minister Dacic confirmed that the death toll had risen to 13 with the recovery of five more bodies from the wreckage, expressing that they believed no one else was in the debris. He also stated that three out of the four individuals hospitalized were in critical condition.
Dacic mentioned that two individuals who had been in communication with rescuers were saved from the debris, adding that search and rescue efforts were ongoing with the participation of 80 individuals at the scene. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic also visited the site to get updates from ministers. The government declared November 2 as a national day of mourning.
