Retailers Expect Price Increase

The retail confidence maintained a negative trend in August. According to the survey by TEPAV, the sector expressed expectations of price increase in the next 3 months. The Turkey Economic Policy Research Foundation (TEPAV) has released the latest Retail Confidence Index (TEPE). Accordingly, TEPE decreased by 11.8 points compared to the same period of the previous year in August, but increased by 1.1 points compared to the previous month, reaching a value of -6.3 points. The index continued its negative trend in August as well. The percentage of retailers who reported a deterioration in business conditions in the past 3 months increased from 56% to 56.7% in August. The percentage of those expecting an improvement in their business in the next 3 months, however, decreased from 35% to 32.2%. Moreover, the percentage of those expecting an increase in sales prices in the next 3 months reached 69.6%. Retail confidence rose the most in Southeastern Anatolia. Changes in Southeastern Anatolia, Western Anatolia, Eastern Marmara, and the Mediterranean regions exceeded the average. On the other hand, changes in the West Marmara, Istanbul, Aegean, Eastern Black Sea, Western Black Sea, Central Anatolia, Northeastern Anatolia, and Southeastern Anatolia regions remained below the average.
