Mainstream Jewish organizations wasted no time in issuing congratulatory messages for Donald Trump on his declared victory in the U.S. presidential elections. Many Jewish unions expressed their eagerness to work with the Trump administration on issues concerning Jerusalem, Iran, Hamas, and Hezbollah. On the other hand, some criticized Trump’s future policies. T’ruah, a group of rabbis opposing the occupation of Israel, stated, “The politics of fear, misogyny, racism, and xenophobia secured a victory. This is horrifying news for the U.S. and the world.”Israeli settlements, Iran, Hamas, and Hezbollah, among other concerns. They acknowledged the effective collaboration between the previous Trump administration and their efforts to advance Israel’s regional integration, especially including the Abraham Accords.
Similarly, the North American Jewish Federations expressed their willingness to work with the Trump administration in their statement. They emphasized the need for President Trump to tackle several critical issues for their community, such as dealing with the threatening Iran, supporting Israel’s justified fight against Hamas, Hezbollah, and other terror groups, combating antisemitism, and other hate types in the society.
CEO Amy Spitalnick of the Jewish Public Affairs Council voiced deeper concerns regarding Trump’s victory. She stated that the outcome is terrifying for many communities constantly threatened and demonized by Trump’s campaign. She pointed out the adoption of anti-democratic, antisemitic, xenophobic, and racist conspiracy theories and rhetoric by Trump, aiming to sow distrust in democratic institutions and divide societies, making everyone less secure.
The Executive Director of T’ruah, Rabbi Jill Jacobs, wrote, “Yesterday, the politics of fear, misogyny, racism, and xenophobia scored a victory. This is horrifying news for the U.S. and the world. President-elect Trump has declared an intention to be an autocrat. History has taught us not to believe leaders who make such statements.”
