Resignation at FDA: “Being irresponsible to undermine trust in vaccines”

2 Mins Read

Peter Marks, the Director of the Biologics Evaluation and Research Center at the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), has resigned from his position. In his resignation letter, Marks stated that undermining trust in vaccines is irresponsible. According to The New York Times, Marks emphasized in his resignation letter that undermining trust in vaccines, which has been ongoing at the FDA for years, is irresponsible, specifically referring to Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s negative stance on vaccines. Marks highlighted that this attitude poses a threat to public health and constitutes a clear danger to the health, safety, and security of citizens, pointing out the deadly consequences of the disease in light of the measles outbreak among unvaccinated individuals in Texas and other states. Marks conveyed that measles, which “resulted in the deaths of over 100,000 unvaccinated children due to complications in Africa and Asia by 2024,” did not pose a threat in the US thanks to the widespread use of vaccines in the past. Marks expressed his willingness to address Kennedy’s concerns about vaccine safety and transparency through various means such as public meetings but was rejected, stating in an interview, “I did everything in my power to work with this administration to restore trust in vaccines.” Marks conveyed that leaving the FDA meant “lifting a burden” and added that he was in an environment where the danger was deepening. According to a knowledgeable source, Marks resigned after being told to either resign or be fired after being summoned to the Department of Health and Human Services. A ministry spokesperson stated that Marks had no place in the FDA “unless he was transparent.”
