The data released by the World Health Organization (WHO) reveals that globally, a woman dies every two minutes due to inadequate care during pregnancy. Most of the deaths are recorded in African countries.

The World Health Organization has published a new and alarming report on maternal deaths. According to this report, a woman dies every two minutes due to not receiving the necessary care during pregnancy. In 2023, within six weeks of being pregnant or giving birth, 260,000 women worldwide lost their lives.

30 Pregnant Women Die Every Hour which translates to 712 women losing their lives each day. Every hour, 30 pregnant or newly delivering women die due to lack of proper care. Most of these deaths occur in Sub-Saharan African countries.

The World Health Organization highlighted that the goal of reducing maternal deaths to 71 per 100,000 by 2030 is falling far behind target. Although there has been a 40% progress since 2000, 197 out of every 100,000 pregnant women are still losing their lives.

INCREASE IN DEATHS IN AFRICAN COUNTRIES There is a rise in maternal deaths in Sub-Saharan African countries. It is emphasized that with the cessation of the international aid by the American government, maternal deaths will escalate even further.

TRUMP ADMINISTRATION CUTS GLOBAL AID The Trump administration decided to cut off the $770 million international aid it was providing for pregnancy and family planning. Approximately 60 countries around the world were benefiting from these aids provided by the United States. The majority of these countries were located in Africa and South Asia.
