The Brazilian Supreme Court announced that social media platform X, which has met the necessary requirements for reopening, will be granted access once again.
The South American country of Brazil made a statement regarding the closure of X platform owned by American billionaire Elon Musk.
In the announcement published on the internet site of the Brazilian Supreme Court, it was noted that the social media platform had fulfilled the court’s demands such as the closure of certain accounts, payment of fines, and the appointment of a legal representative in the country. Therefore, Brazilian users will be able to access the previously blocked X platform again starting from August 31 in the country. The Supreme Court had requested data from some individuals on X and the closure of certain accounts as part of the investigation into the “coup attempt” involving the far-right former President Jair Bolsonaro. Following the rejection of the request, the court had given X 24 hours to appoint a legal representative in the country. After the company failed to appoint a legal representative in Brazil within the given time, the court had announced that access to X was blocked until “a representative is appointed and the fines are paid.” Elon Musk also expressed his reaction to the decision in a post on X, stating, “Freedom of expression is the cornerstone of democracy and the so-called judiciary in Brazil, which was not elected, is destroying it for political reasons.”
