The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources reported that renewable energy sources accounted for 62.8% of electricity production in the January-August period. Information shared on the Ministry’s X social media account stated, “A total of 232.6 terawatt-hours of electricity was generated in our country in the first 8 months of this year. 62.8% of this was sourced from local and renewable sources.” The infographic accompanying the post showed that hydroelectric power had the largest share in the distribution of electricity production by sources in the first 8 months of the year at 24.5%. This was followed by 20.1% from imported coal, 17.1% from natural gas, 13.3% from domestic coal, 10.8% from wind, 8% from solar, 3.1% from geothermal, and 3.1% from biomass. During this period, electricity production from hydroelectric power amounted to 57.1 terawatt-hours, 46.8 terawatt-hours from imported coal, 39.7 terawatt-hours from natural gas, 31 terawatt-hours from domestic coal, 25.2 terawatt-hours from wind, 18.5 terawatt-hours from solar, 7.2 terawatt-hours from geothermal, and 7.1 terawatt-hours from biomass.
