Regulation to Reduce Bills by 25 Percent

2 Mins Read

A new insulation application that will increase energy efficiency in buildings is set to begin tomorrow. The regulation aims to achieve a decrease of up to 25 percent in energy bills. The Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) has made mandatory the “TS 825-Thermal Insulation Rules for Buildings Standard” revised to increase energy savings in buildings and minimize heat loss. The standard, revised by TSE for energy efficiency on October 21, 2024, is now in effect. HEATING COSTS TO BE REDUCED The updates in the standard were made in line with sector needs and technological advancements. With contributions from public institutions, civil society organizations, and industry experts, the scope of TS 825 has been expanded. The new regulation aims to reduce heating and cooling costs, enhance the efficient use of energy resources, and contribute to environmental sustainability. INCREASED NUMBER OF INSULATION ZONES The insulation classification, once divided into 4 zones, has been expanded to 6 zones considering climatic conditions. With the regulation effective as of April 1, insulation calculations for buildings have been revised according to regional climate conditions. From thermal performance of buildings to ground heat transfer, heating and cooling needs, surface temperatures, all rules are included in the standards set by TSE. ENERGY BILLS TO DECREASE BY 25 PERCENT Thus, it is anticipated that energy bills will decrease by up to 25 percent while maintaining comfort conditions in buildings. Additionally, the goal is to achieve a total energy saving of 2.5 terawatt hours annually in newly constructed buildings, equivalent to three months of energy production of the Atatürk Dam. Furthermore, by reducing carbon emissions by 600 million tons annually, significant contributions will be made to environmental sustainability. The revised TS 825 standard aims to accurately calculate the net heating and cooling energy requirements of buildings, optimize energy losses and gains. This way, energy consumption will be minimized, reducing costs for individual users and enhancing energy efficiency nationwide. CONTRIBUTION GOAL TO THE COUNTRY’S ECONOMY The new regulations aim to make significant contributions not only to individual consumers but also to the country’s economy. By increasing insulation, energy efficiency will be enhanced, reducing external dependence. Additionally, citizens will experience economic relief by paying lower energy bills. From an environmental perspective, reducing carbon emissions will be a critical step towards a sustainable future.
