Record Reaction from US Senator: Spoke for 25 Hours Straight!

2 Mins Read

Democratic Senator Cory Booker, protesting President Donald Trump’s policies, set a record for the “longest speech in the Senate” with a speech exceeding 25 hours on the Senate floor.

Starting his speech in the US Senate General Assembly on Monday at 7:00 PM local time, Senator Booker completed his speech after 25 hours and 4 minutes, making headlines across the country. In his speech, which was also broadcast live by the US media, Booker criticized at length the budget cuts by the Trump administration, dismissals in the federal government, and budget reduction operations under the Office of Government Efficiency (DOGE) management.

SPEAKING THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT
At the beginning of his speech, stating, “As long as I have the physical strength, I am standing up with the intention of disrupting the normal workings of the United States Senate. Tonight, I am standing up because I believe our country is in crisis.” Booker continued his speech throughout the night until Tuesday evening. He addressed issues such as Social Security, Medicaid, and immigration, covering all major topics on the country’s agenda.

HE DID NOT LEAVE THE PODIUM
With no obstacles ahead of his speech as he did not obstruct any legislative work or violate any rules, Booker did not leave the podium to ensure the Senate General Assembly did not adjourn. His speech, lasting 25 hours and 4 minutes, was recorded as the “longest speech in Senate history,” with Booker stating that his goal was to draw attention to Trump’s “wrong policies.”

PREVIOUS RECORD DATED BACK TO 2003
The longest speech in the history of the US Senate so far was attributed to Senator Strom Thurmond, who passed away in 2003, for his 24-hour and 18-minute speech in 1957 opposing the Civil Rights Act.
