Record Breaking Year in Cargo Transport

The Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, Uraloglu, announced that the number of cargoes transported in 2024 exceeded 1.38 billion, setting a new record. Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu noted that the number of shipments, which was 681.3 million in the same period of the previous year, increased by 9.6% in the second half of 2024 to approximately 746.68 million. Making a statement regarding the Turkey Postal Sector Market Data Report for the second half of 2024 published by the Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTK), Uraloglu used the term “In 2024, the total volume of mail transport exceeded 1.38 billion, an increase of 8.3% compared to 2023, setting an all-time record.” Uraloglu also mentioned that there are 52 authorized service providers in the sector, with 25 being national and 37 local, and a total of 62 authorizations were granted, with Istanbul receiving the highest number of local authorizations at 24, followed by Izmir with 5 and Ankara with 4 authorizations. Uraloglu indicated that as of the second half of last year, a total of 10,992 postal agencies and branches were serving across Turkey, with 1,955 in Istanbul, 753 in Ankara, 576 in Izmir, providing employment for over 122,000 people in the postal sector. Minister Uraloglu mentioned that approximately 3% of the shipments are delivered on the same day, while 80% are delivered within 2 days.
