United States President Donald Trump’s new tax decisions have been met with reactions from many countries. Leaders stated, “We will also take measures; life will become more expensive for Americans.” China’s Ministry of Commerce stated, “This is a typical practice of unilateral bullying.” It was emphasized that China is against the decision and will take resolute countermeasures to protect its rights and interests. The statement highlighted how the practice, labeled as “mutual tariff” by the US, is based on subjective and unilateral evaluations, not in accordance with international trade rules, and threatens the legitimate rights and interests of relevant parties. The statement warned that this practice of unilateral bullying will not only harm the US’s own interests but also endanger global economic development and supply chain stability. It called on the US to cancel unilateral tariff measures and resolve differences with trade partners through equal dialogue.

US TO APPLY A 34% TARIFF TO CHINA
US President Donald Trump announced that starting the next day, the US will apply reciprocal tariffs to other countries, ranging from over 10% as the base tariff rate, taking into account customs duties and “non-monetary barriers and forms of fraud” depending on the country. Accordingly, in addition to a 10% base tariff, an additional reciprocal tariff of 24% will be imposed on China, totaling 34% extra tariff. The new tariffs, including the 10% base tariff, will come into effect on April 5, while the additional 24% tariff will be implemented on April 9. Trump previously signed an executive order on February 1, imposing a 10% tariff on imports from China, which came into effect on February 4. On March 4, Trump increased the tariffs on China from 10% to 20%. In response, Beijing implemented additional tariffs on certain imported goods from the US and imposed sanctions on American companies.
