A protest was organized in Berlin, Germany, against the attempt to deport four people connected to demonstrations in support of Palestine. Over 100 demonstrators gathered on Stresemann Street near the Berlin State Parliament to protest the decision to deport four Palestinian activists, three of whom are citizens of European Union (EU) member countries. Placards carried during the protest had slogans such as “Berlin cannot deport them”, “Deported without trial?”, “Where are the Nazis in Poland?” and “Germany does not need AfD, fascists are already in power”, alongside Palestinian flags. The demonstrators had previously participated in activities at the university. Chants against the governments of Germany and Israel were heard during the protest, with emphasis placed on the illegality of deporting the four supporters of Palestine and the necessity for freedom of expression. The Berlin State Ministry of the Interior had previously announced that the Residence Authority decided to end the residency of the four individuals of foreign nationality in March 2025 in connection with events at the Free University of Berlin in October 2024. According to news on The Intercept website, the four activists who participated in support of Palestine in Berlin were required to leave the country by April 21, and would face forced deportation if they did not comply. The decision to deport them was reportedly based on claims that they posed a threat to public order, citing accusations of causing property damage, obstructing the arrest of another activist, calling the police ‘fascists’, participating in protests at the university, and chanting banned slogans. News sources had also mentioned that political pressure played a role in the deportation decisions. The lawyer for these individuals, Alexander Gorski, had shared that he filed a lawsuit against the deportation order for his clients.
