Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was met with protests when he took the podium to speak at the United Nations General Assembly. As Netanyahu began his speech, the Turkish delegation and many other delegations left the hall.
Netanyahu started his speech at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, with protests accompanying his appearance.
After Netanyahu took the stage, the Turkish delegation and several other delegations left the hall.
The Israeli Prime Minister began his speech by promising to counter the “accusations” at the UN.
“I decided to come to the UN General Assembly to eliminate possible misunderstandings,” Netanyahu said, claiming that Israel wants peace.
He also indicated that a normalization agreement with Saudi Arabia was close before October. Netanyahu stressed that Israel has had to defend itself on various battlefronts organized by Iran, adding, “If you hit us, we will hit you. There is nowhere in Iran where Israel cannot reach.”
Calling on the UN Security Council to reimpose sanctions on Iran to prevent it from acquiring nuclear weapons, Netanyahu stated that Israel will do everything in its power to ensure Iran does not possess nuclear weapons.
Despite fighting for its survival against “barbarous enemies,” while also seeking peace, Netanyahu expressed, “We are winning.” He continued, “Our country is at war, fighting for survival. We must defend ourselves against these brutal killers. Our enemies seek not only to destroy us, but to obliterate our shared civilization and return us all to a dark age of tyranny and terror.”
The Israeli Prime Minister stated at the General Assembly, “We are defending ourselves against Iran,” and added, “But we are also defending against a common enemy that is trying to destroy our way of life through violence and terror.”
Netanyahu claimed that the Israeli army had killed or captured more than half of Hamas’s 40,000 fighters, and destroyed 90% of Hamas rockets. He warned that if Hamas remained in power in Gaza, they would rearm and attack Israel again. Netanyahu expressed readiness to support a local civil administration in Gaza committed to peaceful coexistence, stating, “Hamas surrendering, laying down their arms, and returning hostages could end the war,” and proclaimed, “Israel will fight for ‘total victory’ in Gaza.”
However, Netanyahu stated, “We do not want to see one person, one innocent civilian killed. It is always a tragedy.”
Regarding Hezbollah, Netanyahu said, “We will not rest until our citizens can return home safely, we will not accept a terrorist army stationed on our northern border. Enough is enough. As long as Hezbollah chooses the path of war, Israel has no other option.” He also declared that they would continue attacks on Lebanon until their goals were achieved.
In his speech, Netanyahu emphasized the need to continue the path opened by the Abraham Accords, which he described as a historic peace agreement between Israel and Saudi Arabia. He criticized the exclusion of Israel from the United Nations, accusing the International Criminal Court prosecutor of “pure anti-Semitism.” Netanyahu stated that the UN had become a “derogatory farce.”
At the end of his speech, Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the people and soldiers of Israel, saying, “Be strong and well-intentioned.”
