The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry is aiming to increase productivity in livestock farming next year by providing a support of 27 billion 150 million liras to breeders. According to the 2025 Presidential Annual Program, it is expected that the agricultural support budget will reach 91.6 billion liras by the end of the year 2024. The support budget for 2025 has been raised by 47.5% compared to this year, reaching 135 billion liras. In this context, increasing productivity and quality in livestock farming is also targeted. The total support provided to livestock this year is planned to reach 19 billion 740 million liras, with an anticipated increase of 37.5% to 27 billion 150 million liras next year. The transition to a new model suitable for planned production under livestock support measures took place on July 26th. With the new support model, the goals are to increase efficiency in livestock farming, protect animal health, and increase production at the basin level determined within the scope of planned production. Moreover, the aim is to strengthen producer cooperatives, ensure sustainability of small enterprises, and encourage young and female breeders to engage in the sector by making more effective use of livestock support. INCREASE IN PRODUCTION AND PRODUCTIVITY EXPECTED IN BASINS Nihat Çelik, President of the Turkey Association of Purebred Sheep and Goat Breeders (TÜDKİYEB), mentioned that for the first time, support for lambs and kids was provided within the framework of the new livestock support schemes, adding that the new model will accelerate the sector’s development. Çelik highlighted the increase in support allocated to livestock, stating, “These increases indicate the importance given to our sector. Our producers are also making every effort to increase production by using these supports efficiently.” Emphasizing the importance of support for the sector, Çelik stated, “We will see the benefits of the new support model more clearly next year. With this model, we believe that we will observe an increase in production in basins determined under the scope of planned production. We also expect productivity enhancements in livestock with the new model.”
