President Donald Trump of the United States welcomed Tom Barrack, whom he nominated as the Ambassador to Ankara, at the White House. Speaking about Turkey and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Trump used praising words, stating “It’s a good country; its leader is good too.” After receiving approval by the Senate, President Trump met with some ambassadorial nominees who will be traveling to different countries around the world at the White House. During a brief statement alongside the other ambassadorial nominees, Barrack expressed his satisfaction in working with Trump and thanked him, describing Turkey as “one of the most ancient civilizations.” In response to Barrack’s words, President Trump said, “It’s a good country; its leader is good.” WHO IS TOM BARRACK? Barrack, who is 77 years old and was born and raised in California, completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Southern California and his law degree at the University of San Diego. He is the grandson of Lebanese Christian immigrant ancestors who migrated to the United States from the city of Zahle in Lebanon in 1900, growing up in Culver City, Los Angeles, where his father was a grocer and his mother was a secretary. Barrack, who played rugby during his student years and worked as a lawyer in Saudi Arabia, served as the Assistant Secretary of the Interior in the Reagan administration during the 1980s, sharing a neighborhood with the 40th President of the United States, Ronald Reagan, in the Rancho del Cielo region of California.
