President Pezeskiyan Reacts to Trump: Iran Favors Dialogue on Equal Terms

2 Mins Read

Iranian President Masoud Pezeskiyan expressed his reaction to US President Donald Trump’s “direct negotiation call” and threats towards Iran, stating, “Iran favors dialogue on equal terms. You cannot threaten Iran while also calling for negotiations.” President Pezeskiyan met with government officials and a group of parliamentarians in Tehran on the occasion of the Nowruz holiday. During the meeting, he addressed Trump’s “direct negotiation call” and threats towards Iran. Pezeskiyan reacted to Trump’s call, emphasizing, “Iran favors dialogue on equal terms. You cannot threaten Iran while also calling for negotiations. If you truly seek negotiations, what is the meaning of threats.” Pezeskiyan called for unity in the face of domestic threats, saying, “If we set aside internal disagreements and unite, the enemy cannot act against us, and we can solve the people’s problems. We need to work together hand in hand for the people. Some individuals have politicized everything in the country, even seeing services for the people as political issues.” President Pezeskiyan also addressed the economic situation, highlighting the financial difficulties faced by the Iranian people, mentioning, “The economic situation of the people is not good. This year, we must focus more on production and efficient use of resources compared to the previous year. We need social support programs. We are building a new structure with the support of philanthropists and the participation of the people to ensure that no one goes hungry in Iran. We believe we can overcome these problems with a mosque and neighborhood-centered service network.” In response to a letter diplomacy between the US and Iran, President Donald Trump stated in an interview with NBC on March 30 that if no agreement is reached on nuclear negotiations with Iran, they will attack and impose new sanctions. Trump also argued that direct negotiations with Iran would be more effective, stating, “I think direct negotiations would be better. I believe you make progress more quickly and understand the other party much better than going through intermediaries. They wanted to use intermediaries. I don’t think that’s correct anymore.”
