Efforts for a ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine war have not yet yielded results. The government in Poland has begun providing military training to civilians. Under the program implemented by the Ministry of Defense, civilians are receiving training in defense techniques and weapons. Ceasefire negotiations in the Russia-Ukraine war have not yet produced results. Both countries continue to target each other. Meanwhile, the Polish government is continuing its efforts for civilians to receive military training. Some civilians are learning to use weapons, while others are practicing self-defense. The Ministry of Defense has launched the 6th training session, following the first one held in 2022. Numerous civilians are participating in the program called “Army with Education.” The training provided to Polish civilians includes weapon usage, personal defense techniques, weapon production, survival basics, and first aid lessons. One of the experts providing training to civilians participating in the program mentioned, “I believe that weapon usage is the most important and most challenging aspect to teach… Because in Poland, it’s not a common practice. Not everyone has a weapon at home, not everyone goes to the shooting range. So we have the opportunity to teach them these basic skills.” Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk had stated that the government intends to launch a new program for voluntary military training starting from the next year, aiming to train 100,000 volunteers by 2027. Due to the war between Russia and Ukraine that began 3 years ago, Poland allocates a significant portion of its income to the defense budget.
