Ongoing is the operation carried out by the Syrian army in the province of Latakia against the elements of the toppled Bashar Assad regime. At least 11 security personnel from the Syrian Army lost their lives in the clashes. It was announced that Ibrahim Huweyce, the former air intelligence chief of the regime in the Hafez Assad era, had been captured. Curfews were declared in Tarsus and Homs during the night hours. The Syrian state news agency SANA reported that the elements of the toppled regime in the village of Beit Ana in Latakia had attacked the security forces and one security officer had lost his life in the attack. The news mentioned that an ambulance moving towards the scene to transport the dead and wounded to the hospital was also targeted by the elements of the toppled regime. It was reported that security forces sent reinforcement units to the village and clashes with the said elements occurred in the region. DEATH TOLL SURPASSED 10 According to information obtained from local sources, at least 10 security personnel lost their lives in ongoing clashes near the Hmeimim Airport and Naval Academy in the Jableh district. Thus, a total of at least 11 security forces from the Syrian Army lost their lives in the clashes organized throughout the day. Armored vehicles were also sent as reinforcement forces to the conflict zones. Hundreds of people gathered in squares in Idlib, Homs, Latakia, Aleppo, and Jableh to protest the attack by the elements of the toppled regime. CURFEW IN TARSUS AND HOMS Lazkiye’s General Directorate of Security Mustafa Kuneyfati said to SANA, “The elements of the toppled regime made planned attacks on the road control points of the general security forces. Public institutions were destroyed.” Kuneyfati stated that forces were mobilized, the attack in the rural area of Jableh was repelled, and clashes continued in the town center. On the other hand, curfews were imposed in Tartus from 22.00 to 10.00 and in Homs from 22.00 to 08.00. Gayyas Delle, known as one of the groups ambushing security forces and introducing himself as the commander of the Regime’s Gayes Forces, announced that they had established a military council to overthrow the current administration. The village of Beit Ana affiliated with Jableh is also known as the hometown of Suheyl el-Hasan, the commander of the 24th Division known as the “Tiger Forces” and recognized with the massacres he committed. CAPTURED FORMER INTELLIGENCE CHIEF OF OVERTURNED BAATH REGIME According to a breaking news report by SANA, security forces captured former Air Intelligence Chief Major General Ibrahim Huweyce, who is held responsible for the deaths of hundreds of people, including Lebanese Druze leader Kemal Canbolat, during the Hafez Assad era. The Syrian army had launched an operation against the elements of the toppled regime who refused to surrender their weapons in Latakia and Daraa provinces in the last 2 days.
