The issue of plastic pollution in the oceans is frequently featured in news and research. According to a recent study, it is projected that by 2030, the plastic waste from just one American beverage company will reach 602 thousand tons.
By the year 2030, 602 thousand tons of plastic will have found its way into the oceans. This amount is equivalent to 220 billion half-liter plastic bottles. Moreover, these are only the wastes produced by a single American beverage company. The latest analysis by the environmental organization Oceana is said to have been prepared based on the company’s publicly available data.
ENOUGH TO FILL THE STOMACHS OF 18 MILLION WHALES Experts state that the largest beverage producer in the world, an American company, will produce enough plastic waste by 2030 to “fill the stomachs of 18 million whales.” According to a study published in 2024, the American company currently ranks first as the world’s largest plastic polluter. Oceana, the organization behind the analysis, says that one of the best solutions to reduce plastic waste is to decrease single-use plastics and promote the use of reusable packaging.
80 PERCENT OF THE WASTE IS PLASTIC Plastic waste accounts for 80 percent of the pollution in the oceans. While 400 million tons of plastic are produced worldwide each year, it is estimated that 10 million tons of plastic end up in the oceans annually.
