Number of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Exceeds 11 Thousand

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Uraloğlu, announced that the number of electric vehicle charging stations has increased to 11,037 as of February. Stressing that the country-wide charging infrastructure is rapidly growing with the increase in electric vehicle production and demand, Minister Uraloğlu highlighted that the use of electric vehicles is rapidly spreading in Turkey. He emphasized that the significant increase seen both in vehicle production and sales points towards a new era in energy and transportation. Uraloğlu drew attention to the fact that electric vehicles reduce carbon emissions, increase energy efficiency, and mark a crucial step in both individual transportation and environmental sustainability. He also mentioned that the Ministry supports this transformation. Indicating that electric vehicles are strongly embraced, Uraloğlu stated that in February 2024, the number of registered electric vehicles in Turkey was 93,973, reaching 208,006 in February 2025 with a 121% increase. He shared the information that the number of electric vehicles sold in February of this year reached 10,324, compared to 4,713 in the same month last year with an increase of more than double. The share of electric vehicles in total car sales has also increased from 5.7% to 13.6%. Uraloğlu highlighted the increased need for charging sockets with the rise of electric vehicles, mentioning that the number of charging sockets increased from 15,335 in February 2024 to 28,159 in the same month this year. Emphasizing the robust establishment of charging infrastructure nationwide, Uraloğlu stated that as of the end of February 2025, there are 11,037 electric vehicle charging stations in the country, with 70% of the existing stations located in urban areas and 30% on intercity roads. He provided information on the distribution of charging stations by cities, stating that Istanbul has the highest number of stations with 2,784, followed by Ankara with 1,213 stations. Antalya has 732 stations, Bursa 532, Izmir 504, and Konya 281 stations.
