Google has announced an agreement to purchase nuclear energy from numerous small modular reactors (SMRs) developed by Kairos Power. The company emphasized Google’s significant role in accelerating the adoption of clean energy solutions, including next-generation advanced clean technologies. According to the statement, the company has signed the world’s first corporate agreement to purchase nuclear energy from the small modular reactors developed by Kairos Power. The agreement aims to enable Kairos Power’s first small modular reactor to be operational quickly and safely by 2030, with additional reactors deployed by 2035, providing up to 500 megawatts of carbon-free energy to the U.S. power grids. The statement highlighted the need for new electricity sources to support artificial intelligence technologies, stating that nuclear solutions offer a clean and uninterrupted energy source to reliably meet electricity demand.
