North Korea unveiled an aircraft believed to be an early warning and control plane for the first time. The country’s leader Kim Jong-Un, who oversees the performance of cutting-edge weapons including AI-powered suicide drones, has instructed the military to be modernized with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and artificial intelligence technologies. Known for its ballistic missile and nuclear weapons program, North Korea made a notable move.

According to an announcement in North Korea’s official press, leader Kim Jong-Un received information from officials about the latest weapons systems developed by defense industry organizations. Kim boarded an aircraft that is believed to be an early warning and control plane, and whose photos were published for the first time. Furthermore, he participated in the testing of suicide drones supported by artificial intelligence. Kim also inspected the new type of strategic reconnaissance UAV. Giving instructions for the military to be modernized with UAVs and artificial intelligence technologies, Kim said, “It is important to promote the rapid and long-term development of these technologies in line with the requirements of modern warfare.”

Kim also expressed satisfaction with the start of production of new jamming and attack systems, stating, “Our specially developed vehicles utilizing current technology will play a significant role in monitoring potential threats and gathering vital intelligence. These vehicles will also contribute to enhancing the ability to neutralize enemy targets.” North Korea’s latest move, coming immediately after the 11-day joint Freedom Shield Exercise conducted by the US and South Korea in the region, was interpreted as a warning to the Washington-Seoul alliance.
