A new regulation is being introduced regarding foreign-plated vehicles. With this regulation, foreign-plated vehicles entering Turkey will not be allowed to leave the country without paying outstanding fees and fines incurred for passing through privately operated highways. AK Party lawmakers are preparing to submit a new bill to the Parliament. The bill aims to prevent foreign-plated vehicles from crossing the border without paying toll fees for privately operated highways. It has been determined that foreign-plated vehicles have been leaving Turkey without paying toll fees after using privately operated highways due to the lack of a legal framework. It was found that allowing these vehicles to leave the country without paying the toll fees and fines was being abused. Following an increase in the number of foreign-plated vehicles passing through privately operated highways without payment, a change will be made to the 30th article of the Highway Transportation Law with a bill submitted to the Turkish Parliament Presidency. With this change, a similar practice will be implemented for foreign-plated vehicles operating on privately operated highways if toll fees and fines are not paid after passing through highways operated by the General Directorate of Highways. Fines and highway fees will be collected at customs if not paid before foreign-plated vehicles leave the country. These debts can be collected by authorized units at customs without the need for notification, informing the driver. 60% of the collected amount will be recorded as service fee to the general budget, and 40% will be transferred to the relevant operator by the end of the following month.
