According to reports from the Israeli media, Egypt has presented a new offer to Israel and Hamas for a ceasefire in Gaza.
It has been reported that Egypt, one of the mediators in the ceasefire negotiations in the Gaza Strip, has offered a new proposal for a ceasefire to Israel and Hamas.
Israeli state television channel KAN reported that Egypt has relayed a revised version of the ceasefire proposal that Hamas had accepted but Israel had rejected, which was originally proposed along with Qatar last week.
While details of the new ceasefire offer were not disclosed in the report, it was mentioned that the offer falls somewhere between the proposal that included the release of 5 Israeli prisoners offered by the mediators last week and Israel’s demand for the release of 11 prisoners in exchange for only a 40-day ceasefire.
No statement has been made regarding the new ceasefire offer that has reportedly been presented to the parties by Egypt.
Israel, which rejected the ceasefire offer proposed by Egypt and Qatar last week, announced that it had expanded its attacks on the Gaza Strip after breaking the ceasefire on April 2.
The Israeli army resumed its intense attacks in the Gaza Strip on the morning of March 18, following the ceasefire that had been in effect since January 19. In the new attacks, 1,249 Palestinians, mostly elderly, women, and children, lost their lives, and 3,022 people were injured.
Meanwhile, the number of Palestinians who lost their lives in Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, rose to 50,609, with 115,063 injured.
Israel, stating that it will act with “increasing military force” against Hamas due to rejecting the new ceasefire offers, announced that it will target Hamas. In response, Hamas stated that Israel had not kept its promises and had initiated genocide against the Palestinian people once again in the Gaza Strip by failing to fulfill its responsibilities in front of the mediator countries in terms of the ceasefire.
The renewed attacks on Gaza by Israel, which coincided with controversial political steps such as the dismissal of the Shin Bet Director by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, have drawn attention.
