The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) based in the US reported that Russia provided “satellite data” to the Houthis earlier this year to carry out attacks on Western ships in the Red Sea in Yemen.
US media alleged that strategic information was provided by Russia to the Iran-backed Houthis who have been attacking ships linked to Israel in the Red Sea since November last year in response to Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip.
An article in the US-based Wall Street Journal (WSJ) stated that Russia provided “data” to the Houthis earlier this year to carry out attacks on Western ships in the Red Sea in Yemen.
The newspaper, citing an unnamed source, wrote that Russia shared the data with the Houthis through members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.
It was also reported that Russia shared satellite images as well to be “helpful” in the Houthis’ attacks. WHAT HAPPENED?
In November 2023, the Houthis started targeting vessels linked to Israel in the Red Sea in response to Israel’s attacks on Gaza. Following the attacks on more than 80 commercial ships in the Red Sea with missiles and drones, Western shipping companies decided to halt their voyages in the Red Sea.
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced on December 18th that a multinational coalition named the “Guardian of Welfare Operation” was established in response to the attacks by the Houthis on international commercial ships in the Red Sea.
