Netanyahu claims potential successor to Nasrallah, Hashim Safieddine, killed

2 Mins Read

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu alleged that Hashim Safieddine, the Chairman of Hezbollah’s Executive Council and considered a potential successor to Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in an attack they carried out. There has been no statement from Hezbollah regarding this matter. In an English video message released, Netanyahu addressed the people of Lebanon. Blaming Iran for the situation in Lebanon, Netanyahu claimed that Israel was not responsible for what was happening, but rather Tehran. He also alleged that they killed Hashim Safieddine, who was considered as a potential successor to Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah. Claiming to have “struck a blow and weakened” Hezbollah, Netanyahu urged the people of Lebanon to take a stance against the organization. Threatening the people of Lebanon with the fate of Palestinians in Gaza under Israeli attacks, Netanyahu stated, “Before falling into the abyss of a long war that will lead to destruction and suffering as we have seen in Gaza, you have the opportunity to save Lebanon. It doesn’t have to be that way.” Nasrallah died in Israeli air strikes in the Dahiye neighborhood of southern Beirut on September 27. While Hezbollah has not yet designated a replacement for Nasrallah, Safieddine’s name has been highlighted for the position of Secretary-General. Israeli media reported that Safieddine was targeted in an Israeli air strike on southern Beirut on the night of October 3.
