Hamas has announced that they have accepted the latest ceasefire proposal for long-term peace in Gaza, which came from Egypt.
Hamas Leader Halil El Hayya stated, “We accept the latest proposal for a ceasefire that came from Egypt” in regards to the offer.
El Hayya also emphasized that Hamas will not disarm as long as the Israeli occupation continues.
5 ISRAELI PRISONERS TO BE RELEASED
It is stated that Hamas has agreed to release 5 Israeli prisoners in return for renewing the ceasefire in Gaza proposed by Egypt and restarting negotiations for a long-term ceasefire.
Israel, on the other hand, responded to the new ceasefire proposal presented by mediators with a counteroffer. It was reported that the counteroffer was given “in full coordination with the US.”
While the content of Israel’s response is unknown, according to the ceasefire accepted by Hamas, it will begin on the first day of Eid al-Fitr and continue until April 19.
ISRAEL HAD RESUMED INTENSE ATTACKS IN GAZA
The Israeli army broke the ceasefire that went into effect on January 19 in the Gaza Strip on the morning of March 18 and resumed intense attacks. Since the resumption of the Israeli army’s attacks, more than 896 Palestinians, mostly elderly, women, and children, have lost their lives and over 1984 people have been injured. The number of Palestinians killed in the attacks on the Gaza Strip by Israel since October 7, 2023, has reached 50,251, while the number of injured has risen to 114,025. Israel, which violated the ceasefire, announced that it would act “with increasing military power” against Hamas, citing the rejection of new ceasefire proposals. Hamas, on the other hand, stated that Israel “did not keep its promises and resumed genocide against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip by failing to fulfill its responsibilities in front of the mediator countries during the ceasefire.” Israel’s attacks on Gaza started under the shadow of controversial political moves, such as the dismissal of the Shin Bet Director by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
