Scientists in Sydney, Australia, have announced that the “tar balls” appearing on the beaches and causing closures are a mixture of oil, human feces, and other substances. The Randwick city council in Sydney, Australia, closed the local Coogee beach in October due to the unknown source of the “mysterious” tar balls. In a statement from the council, it was mentioned that “Kuji Beach in Sydney has been closed by the Randwick City Council lifeguards this afternoon, October 15, after discovering unknown spherical substances until further notice.” The council environmental officials collected samples from the beach and sent them for testing. Scientists, after conducting their investigations, revealed that the tar balls are a mixture of oil, human feces, chemical waste, and other harmful substances.
