At the beginning of the year, an additional customs duty was imposed on motorcycles, leading to price increases. As a result, motorcycle sales plummeted by half in the first two months. After five years of record-breaking motorcycle sales, this year experienced a slowdown. An additional customs duty was introduced on motorcycle imports from non-European Union markets at the start of the year. The tax rate was raised from 20% to 30%. Furthermore, the scope of surveillance tax was expanded. Due to these regulations, motorcycle prices surged by up to 200%, impacting sales. According to Ekonomim Gazetesi, sales shrank by 50% in the first two months, reaching 72 thousand units. Motorcycle sales had surpassed car sales back in July 2023. However, with the decline in sales, motorcycles dropped back to second place. In 2024, motorcycle sales had exceeded 1 million units for the first time.
