It has been announced that monkeys in a research laboratory affiliated with a company called Alpha Genesis in the state of South Carolina in the USA have escaped.
The incident occurred as a result of a new caregiver not properly closing the door of the cage where the monkeys were kept for experiments, leading to the escape of the 43 monkeys bred for experiments.
SECURITY WARNING TO THE LOCALS
While the police have initiated a large-scale search for the escaped monkeys, officials have warned the local residents to keep their doors and windows closed and report any sightings of monkeys to the authorities.
It was stated that the escaped monkeys were about 3.2 kg each, young, and female, and traps have been set up in the area while thermal cameras are being used to track the monkeys.
The CEO of Alpha Genesis, Greg Westergaard, expressed his frustration at the monkeys’ escape, stating that he hopes the monkeys will be captured.
43 OUT OF 50 MONKEYS ESCAPED
Westergaard mentioned that the monkeys escaped on Wednesday, noting that there were actually 50 monkeys in total but 43 of them escaped, adding that the monkeys are in a wooded area.
Police officials, on the other hand, stated in a press conference that the escaped monkeys do not pose a danger to the local residents.
In a similar incident in 2016, 19 monkeys escaped from Alpha Genesis but were returned 6 hours later. In 2014, 26 monkeys also escaped from the facility.
