Major earthquakes hitting Myanmar were also felt in the southwestern Chinese province of Yunnan. Cameras captured the moments when nurses working in the maternity unit tried to protect newborn babies.

The 7.7 and 6.4 magnitude earthquakes in Myanmar were also felt in the city of Ruili in Yunnan, China.

During the earthquake, nurses held onto incubators and tried to protect the babies.

Nurse Xiong Jielan said, “The earthquake happened suddenly, I didn’t have time to think. All I could think of was protecting the baby.”

In Myanmar, the death toll exceeded 1,000 due to the earthquake, with 2,376 reported injuries.

However, the US Geological Survey stated that the death toll could exceed 10,000.

The military junta declared a state of emergency in many regions and made a plea for blood donations.

In Thailand, the death toll rose to 10.
