Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek stated that they predict the annual current account deficit to decrease below 1% by improving by 3.4 points compared to the same period of last year in the third quarter, emphasizing that they will make the sustainable current account deficit permanent.

Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek evaluated the September foreign trade and third quarter tourism data in a social media post.

Şimşek pointed out that they have made significant progress in achieving the sustainable current balance target, stating that the annual foreign trade balance improved by 35 billion dollars compared to the same period of the previous year in September. Şimşek noted that the number of visitors increased by 8.3% annually in the first three quarters to reach 48.3 million, while tourism income increased by 6.6% annually to reach 46.9 billion dollars, saying: “Thus, we expect the annual current account deficit to decrease below 1% by improving by 3.4 points compared to the same period of last year in the third quarter. With our policies that will accelerate green and digital transformation, focus on high value-added production, and reduce external dependence in energy, we will make the sustainable current account deficit permanent in line with our program goals.”
