Minister Şimşek: Declining current account deficit will contribute to price stability

1 Mins Read

Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek stated, “The decreasing current account deficit not only reduces our need for external financing but also significantly contributes to enduring price stability.” Minister Şimşek evaluated the foreign trade statistics. In his social media post, Şimşek mentioned, “In September, the annual foreign trade deficit decreased by 43 billion dollars compared to May of last year, reaching 79 billion dollars.” He further stated, “We expect the annual current account deficit to decrease to around 15 billion dollars in August, and to remain at similar levels in September. As a result, the ratio of annual current account deficit to GDP will drop below 1.5% in the third quarter. The declining current account deficit not only reduces our need for external financing but also contributes significantly to achieving our main goal of enduring price stability by supporting macro financial stability.”
