Minister Fidan Discusses Syria with French Counterpart

Foreign Minister Fidan met with his French counterpart Barrot ahead of the NATO summit.

Today, Minister Fidan will attend the NATO Foreign Ministers meeting in Brussels, Belgium. He will highlight Turkey’s contributions to European-Atlantic security.

The summit will also address increasing defense spending.

Ministers will discuss topics such as the Russia-Ukraine War and European security.

“We Oppose the Forced Displacement of Palestinians”

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot in Paris, France.

According to diplomatic sources, Fidan and Barrot focused on the Ukraine War, European security, regional developments, and bilateral relations.

During the meeting with Barrot, Fidan highlighted that Israel’s escalating attacks could lead to regional instability. He emphasized Turkey’s stand against the forced displacement of the Palestinian people from their homeland. He also expressed support for the Gaza Plan accepted by the Arab League.

Fidan also emphasized the importance of increasing coordination with non-EU countries in shaping Europe’s new security architecture.

UKRAINE WAR AND SYRIA

In the meeting addressing the update of the Customs Union, Minister Fidan expressed support for diplomatic efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war.

He emphasized the importance of close collaboration among all allies during this process and the need for the consent of both parties for a sustainable solution.

Fidan underscored the significance of increasing engagement with the new administration in Syria and fully lifting sanctions in efforts to establish stability and peace in the country.

He also communicated expectations regarding defense industry cooperation.

Highlighting the importance of combating the PKK/YPG terrorist organization, Fidan mentioned the necessity for the return of foreign terrorist members of the terrorist organization ISIS in prisons and camps in northern Syria to their countries.
