Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar stated that “Gabar has become Turkey’s petroleum hub. As of today, we have thankfully reached a production exceeding 80 thousand barrels daily. We have achieved this production figure in 99 wells.” Minister Bayraktar, accompanied by 14 university students studying mining, petroleum, energy, and geological engineering faculties in Istanbul and Ankara, visited the area of Martyr Aybüke Yalçın (ŞAY) Bülent Sadioğlu-8 Field on Gabar Mountain in Şırnak. He received a briefing from Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) General Manager Ahmet Türkoğlu and TPAO Şırnak Regional Manager Mehmet Oğuz Şahin and carried out field examinations. Minister Bayraktar, in his statement to journalists there, mentioned that they are nearing the end of the Ramadan month and are in the new production location at the Bülent Sadioğlu field, one of the new fields in Gabar. Describing the tower named Koca Yusuf as a live example of one of the main objectives of the national energy and mining policy’s placement, Bayraktar continued by saying, “With a very powerful tower we call Koca Yusuf, we are conducting drilling operations in this field, in this location. The Gabar discovery, which has been closely followed by our nation with great interest since September 2021, has aroused great excitement throughout our country, a very important project, a very significant petroleum discovery. The largest petroleum discovery in the history of the Republic. We have thankfully reached a production exceeding 80 thousand barrels daily here in a very short time. We have achieved this production figure in 99 wells. At the same time, we are producing high-quality petroleum in these fields. The Gabar field currently represents an annual economic size, a gain of approximately 2.3 billion dollars for us.” Pointing out that this region was always associated with terrorism in the past, Bayraktar stated that they now walk with the goal of a terrorism-free Turkey. Emphasizing that as they liberate this region from terrorism, their work accelerates, and they begin to see results, Bayraktar indicated that Gabar has a very high potential. Minister Bayraktar noted, “We believe that, God willing, we will further increase these 80 thousand barrels. We had organized a program in memory of our martyr teacher Aybüke Yalçın on November 24, Teachers’ Day. Our production that day was 57 thousand barrels. Today we have reached 80 thousand barrels. We are continuing to develop these fields. We believe that Gabar has become Turkey’s petroleum hub. It will hopefully continue to grow. We have over 3,200 employees working in these mountains today.”
