The National Weather Service (NWS) in the United States has warned that the approaching Milton Hurricane, gaining strength from the Gulf of Mexico and heading towards the state of Florida, could be the “strongest” in the last 100 years. As Americans evacuate the area just hours before the hurricane hits Florida, the United States is grappling with extreme weather conditions.
Federal and local officials continue to issue warnings about the Milton Hurricane, moving towards the Florida coast at speeds reaching 230 kilometers per hour. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), if Milton stays on its path, it will be the strongest hurricane to hit Tampa Bay in 100 years.
It is estimated that areas most affected by the hurricane may end up underwater up to 3 to 4.5 meters, leading to significant ocean waves. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis noted that the state government has allocated “unprecedented resources” to deal with the aftermath of the Milton Hurricane.
DeSantis continues to urge residents to adhere to evacuation orders. The weather monitoring site called The Weather Channel has indicated that the hurricane is expected to reach the mainland US on Wednesday night or Thursday morning, impacting densely populated areas including Tampa, Sarasota, and Fort Myers in Florida.
The National Hurricane Center shared information that the Milton Hurricane is “continuing to rapidly strengthen” in the Gulf of Mexico and has recently slowed to a category 4 as it proceeds towards the Florida coast. President Joe Biden made statements at the White House regarding the Milton Hurricane expected to affect the southeastern United States following Hurricane Helene’s impact.
Describing the Milton Hurricane, moving towards the Florida coast at speeds of 230 kilometers per hour, as a “massive” hurricane, Biden emphasized the urgent need for everyone to evacuate residential areas promptly. The President stated, “You should have evacuated by now, this is a matter of life and death. Evacuate immediately. Milton could be the worst hurricane to hit Florida in the last century.”
