Message to Ukrainians in the US to “leave the country”: Trump administration mistakenly sent

1 Mins Read

In the United States, the Trump administration mistakenly sent a notification to some Ukrainian immigrants who sought refuge in the country due to the Russia-Ukraine War, urging them to urgently leave the country.

According to reports in the US media, the Department of Homeland Security sent messages with an “emergency” code to some Ukrainians living in the country yesterday and the day before. The message stated that their “temporary legal statuses” granted due to the war in their country were cancelled, and they were called to “immediately” leave the US within 7 days. This message caused fear and panic among Ukrainian immigrants, but the Department of Homeland Security later announced that the message was sent “mistakenly.” Department of Homeland Security Spokesperson Tricia MacLaughlin shared in a written statement, “The message sent to some Ukrainians was sent mistakenly. The said conditional statuses have not been cancelled. There is currently no need for them to take any action.”

TEMPORARY STATUSES EXPIRE IN OCTOBER 2026 During the former President Joe Biden’s administration, the temporary legal status provided to Ukrainian immigrants accepted by the US under the “unity program for Ukraine” starting after February 2022 due to the Russia-Ukraine War will expire in October 2026.
