The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Turkey’s strong support for countries fighting against the threat of mines will continue. In a written statement regarding the “4th of April World Mine Awareness and Support Day,” it was emphasized that Turkey will maintain its robust and determined support for countries combating the threat of mines on both land and sea as well as on international platforms. The statement reminded that the United Nations General Assembly declared April 4th as the “World Mine Awareness and Support Day” to draw attention to the dangers of mines and unexploded ordnance. Turkey was noted for making significant and concrete contributions to the fight against land and sea mines on a global and regional scale. The statement indicated that Turkey supports the Ottawa Convention prohibiting the use, storage, production, and transfer of antipersonnel mines, as well as the international cooperation established within this framework through the National Mine Action Center. The Ministry highlighted that mines and unexploded ordnance pose a serious threat to human security in many countries, leading to negative impacts on socioeconomic development and the preservation of cultural heritage. Furthermore, the Ministry acknowledged the security concerns of countries like Afghanistan, where landmines have long been a serious threat, and Azerbaijan, where many undiscovered mines still exist in areas liberated from occupation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, “Turkey’s strong and determined support for countries combating the threat of mines on both land and sea, as well as on international platforms, will continue.”
